About us

Central Texas Forensic Care was founded to ensure that Travis County survivors never lose access to the specialized, compassionate care they deserve.

We are a new organization wanting to provide forensic nursing services in Travis County and surrounding communities as a non profit. Our team is made up of experienced Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) — nurses with years of dedicated service to the Travis County community, who have spent their careers showing up for survivors with skill, steadiness, and deep compassion.

  • The mission of Central Texas Forensic Care is to provide trauma-informed forensic medical care, medical-forensic examinations, sexual assault forensic examinations, victim advocacy, outreach, professional training, research, and coordinated supportive services to individuals affected by violence, abuse, and trauma, with particular attention to underserved, vulnerable, and marginalized populations. 

    Central Texas Forensic Care is a trauma-informed nonprofit organization established to improve access to forensic nursing services, survivor-centered medical care, advocacy, education, and multidisciplinary support for individuals affected by violence, abuse, sexual assault, strangulation, trafficking, and other forms of trauma, particularly in underserved and historically marginalized communities throughout Central Texas. Services will be offered throughout Travis County and surrounding Central Texas communities. The organization is developing infrastructure for a future community-based clinic, allowing for private, comprehensive healthcare and advocacy.

Our core values

  • We are community-based and will locate our clinic in Austin for survivors of trauma to receive care. We work with certified interpreters to ensure accurate and culturally responsive care.

  • We provide education and information in a trauma-informed way so that the people we serve can more easily access it. We maintain competency  and re-educate ourselves on the neurobiology of trauma on a regular basis

    We honor basic needs as essential and assist without judgment.

  • Our primary vision is to have a location where nurses and sexual assault advocates are colocated to collaborate towards survivor-centered care. We work with law enforcement and other agencies to ensure smooth transition of services into the legal justice system if desired or as required. We will work with healthcare providers and students to improve care not just for the survivors, but for all community members. We provide and accept honest, growth-centered feedback to improve clinical practice and outcomes for survivors.

  • We are honest with patients about our limitations, legal requirements, and when we need to communicate with outside agencies (ex: CPS, APS, law enforcement). We complete our tasks in a timely fashion to the best of our ability.

  • We respect and celebrate all elements of each other’s and our patients’ identities, including race, gender identity, sexual orientation, disabilities, etc. We honor the customs and needs of patients in their times of crisis and recovery.

  • We create space and safety for survivors to pursue their own concepts of justice, and to make informed decisions about their healthcare.
